New
Exclusively matured in hand-picked Oloroso sherry seasoned oak casks from Spain, this highly limited release is a testament to The Macallan’s exceptional oak casks; transforming the rich, fruity and full-bodied ‘new make’ spirit into a single malt of great richness and character. This particular instalment in the range (the 2018 edition) was the first to feature the new bottle design, inspired by the Macallan Rare Cask bottling.

The Macallan oak casks are the single greatest contributor to the outstanding quality, natural colours and distinctive aromas and flavours of The Macallan. In fact 60% of the flavour of a whisky is derived from the cask it is matured in. Because of this, The Macallan spends more per cask than any other distillery in sourcing, crafting, seasoning and caring for its casks. Spanish sherry seasoned oak casks deliver flavours and aromas of chocolate orange, dried fruits and spices; American sherry seasoned oak casks primarily provide sweet citrus, light spice, vanilla and light oak flavours and aromas; American bourbon seasoned oak barrels give flavours and aromas of sweet citrus, coconut and oak.
Nose: Clove-studded orange, Christmas cake and cinnamon - very festive! Savoury hints of oak and new leather develop later on.
Palate: Dense shortbread and strawberry jam, more clove, toasted coconut and brown sugar.
Finish: A hint of fiery ginger appears underneath waves of sweet sherry richness.
