The duel in this wine is between equal parts Zinfandel and Syrah, a winning combination in its thick, firm tannin weight wrapped around bright red fruit. Tangy acidity gives it a lift along a juicy and sophisticated palate, peppery and alive on the finish. The wine exhibits bright cherry jam aromas, with big fruit flavors enhanced by hints of spice and lively acidity

The Federalist's vineyards are located in Sonoma County, California. Owned and managed by the Terlato Family, they have positioned the winery to produce single vineyard and estate wines with a focus on Zinfandel. The Federalist is sourced from 100% estate grown new vines on the estate. The Federalist's packaging features the leader and most famous Federalist in American history, Alexander Hamilton. The Federalist Dueling Pistols Red Wine Dry Creek Valley – a dual blend of 50% Zinfandel and 50% Syrah that exhibits aromas of blackberry and black cherry with black pepper and spice. The palate is weighty with rich, ripe fruit and a lively acidity that carries the fruit through to a long finish. Each variety is fermented separately from free-run juice. The individual lots spend an average of 15 days on the skins. Upon completing primary fermentation, the wine undergoes a malolactic fermentation. The separate blocks of Zinfandel and Syrah are blended post malolactic fermentation and are aged 15 months in 20% new oak barrels.
