Ouzo is made from distilled alcohol that is flavoured with aniseed, fennel, and other herbs and spices. The exact recipe for ouzo is a closely guarded secret, known only to the master distiller.
The name Ouzo comes from the Turkish word üzüm, meaning grape. Ouzo was first produced on the island of Lesbos in the early 19th century. Ouzo soon became popular all over Greece, and today it is one of the most iconic Greek drinks.
A classic Greek aniseed liqueur, produced originally by the Kaloynannis brothers. The legend is that those brothers made a multitude of different Ouzo recipes and found the one in Barrel Number 12 to be the best, hence the name.
