Bodegas Langa is one of the best and most advanced wineries in DO Calatayud, situated in the westernmost part of the province of Zaragoza in the foothills of Mont Moncayo. Founded in 1867, Langa stands out as one of the few family-owned and run wineries in Calatayud. Brothers Juan and Cesar Langa Gonzalez are at the helm of this fifth-generation modern winery. Bodegas Langa were founders of the Denominación de Origen Calatayud in 1989 and are a highly respected producer. They were the first commercial winery in this area to switch from bulk to quality wine production in 1954.
They own 70 hectares of spectacular vineyards, many are certified ecological with some well over 100 years, ranging from 600 – 1000 metres. No pesticides, herbicides or chemicals are used in the vineyards. Their present winery was built in 1985 and is a state of the art, modern facility where modern materials sit alongside the traditional methods of wine making. The results are intriguing, high quality wines from a lesser-known area of Spain.
