Aclassical vintage made with no major problem, except one: its size. Good conditions in the winter followed by a fresh summer. This was one of the smallest vintages in a decade at Chateau Musar, yet the wine is one of the biggest.  Medium to full colour, very fine bouquet leading to a well balanced, tannic wine. Very well structured with great ageing potential. A wine that will last and reward patient keeping.

    Musar. A wine that has survived war, commercial wilderness and even comments that it has a ‘weird, briney note to some vintages’. Why? Because it is one of the most interesting, unique and complex wines in the world. Its grapes are grown in the Bekaa valley, the ‘bread basket’ of ancient Rome, and transported over the high coastal range to Serge Hochar, son of the founder Gaston.

    Chateau Musar was the first in Lebanon to implement organically certified viticulture. The grapes used to make the first wine of Chateau Musar, the Chateau Musar Red are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and Carignan from mature vines which yield approximately 30 to 35 hectolitres per hectare. All grapes are harvested by hand by local Bedouins in the morning as it is cooler and preserves the freshness of the grapes. They are then driven for 2 1/2 hours over the mountains to the winery at Ghazir. The wines are usually made available for drinking seven years after the harvest.
