This single-vineyard Barolo comes from the Bricco San Pietro cru. The vineyard is planted in the southern part of Monforte d’Alba at an altitude of 410 metres. The Broccardo family produce small volumes of Barolo wine in four cru vineyards. Each wine – including this Barolo Bricco San Pietro – tells its own story.
Grapes are destemmed, softly crushed, and racked by gravity, without the use of mechanical pumps. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats for 15 days, at a controlled temperature of 25-29 °C. The wine is aged in Slavonian oak barrels for 24 months.
Filippo Broccardo, the winemaker, uses a mix of new and old barrels to introduce a bit of spice but not overpower the delicate Nebbiolo flavours with oak. Finally, the wine is bottled and left to rest in the cellar for 24 months to mature and develop its complex flavours.
Only 5,000 bottles of Broccardo Bricco San Pietro Barolo are produced each year, so this wine is an excellent choice for collectors.
