The Valle Reale estate was founded at the end of the 1990s as an agronomic project carried out by the Pizzolo family in co-operation with the University of Milan. They found in the terroir of Valle Reale the ideal place for the growing of the Montepulciano d’Abruzzo variety.Valle Reale is located away from the coastal strip of the Abruzzo region, surrounded by three national parks which are dominated by towering mountain ranges nearly 3,000 metres above sea level. This mountainous area enjoys unique weather and soil conditions, very different from those of the hilly Adriatic coast, where almost all the other Montepulciano d’Abruzzo growers are located. Here, the wide temperature range between day and night, the calcareous pebble rich soils, the constant cold wind and the slow maturation of the bunches all contribute to produce superb grapes for winemaking.Giulio Vecchio, the Winemaker, recognises his good fortune, ‘I am delighted to have grapes with such potential to express harmonic elegance and wide aromatic complexities; and an extremely modern winery, with temperature and humidity-controlled environments and a barrique room ideal for carrying out ‘batonnage’, in which to make these wines.’
