Beerenauslese is only produced in classic years when Botrytris Cinerea (noble rot) appears on the grapes. This dehydrates the grapes and produces very small quantities of extremely luscious wines which age beautifully. As this does not appear every year in Germany, the wines are exceedingly rare. 1976 was one of the classic years for Beerenauslese as noble rot was in abundance in the vineyards.
