Medium to deep ruby. The nose is intoxicatingly fragranced with enticing notes of jasmine, violets, milk chocolate, red cherries and wild strawberries. The medium+ bodied palate provides fairly high acidity, a medium+ level of silky tannins and adds a very fine touch of minerality to the perfumed fruit. Very long, elegant finish.

The Musigny Vieilles Vignes 1970 from Comte de Vogue is a rare treat and a lovely glass of mature Burgundy. In the nose rich and quite expressive red fruit with notes of sous-bois, tar and a hint of mushrooms. On the palate still quite ample fruit for this age – it’s quite juicy and fresh – build on a foundation of strong but refined minerality – a remarkable achievement in this quite average vintage. It is perhaps lacking a bit of focus compared with bigger vintages – but is drinking very well and offer true pinot pleasure. One would never expect this to be a wine from 1970 – the Vogue wines from the 1960s and 1970s are certainly impressive even in lesser years … well done Alain Roumier!
