Beaune Clos des Ursules (1999) Louis Jadot

New

This walled vineyard of 2.75 hectares forms an enclave within the Premier Cru of Vignes Franches. The name commemorates the former ownership by the Convent of St Ursula in Beaune but it has been owned by the Jadot family since 1826. The wines are silky-smooth and elegant with great suppleness. Louis Jadot regard this as their flagship wine: with justification.

Impressive dark red. Alluring aromas of raspberry, cherry, mocha, graphite, coffee and soy sauce. Wonderfully sweet and concentrated, but firm and full of life as well, showing outstanding density and thickness for Beaune wine. Strong soil and saline mineral notes overshadow the wine's underlying fruit but this wine's size and structure suggest that it's at the beginning of a fairly long period of peak drinkability. Finishes with serious fine-grained tannins and superb persistence.
