Bourgogne Blanc (2016) Leroy

New

The 2016 Leroy Bourgogne Blanc is a blend of estate grapes from Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, and Savigny les Beaune. The low yields, biodynamic farming, and overall perfectionism are exactly the same as you’ll find in Lalou’s Grand Crus—at a fraction of the price you’d pay for a Leroy village wine from Meursault or Puligny Montrachet. With incredible fruit purity and laser focus, the 2016 is more than a joy to drink, it’s an education in fine wine.

The legendary Maison Leroy is home to what Robert Parker calls “the noblest and purest expressions of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in Burgundy.” Part-owner of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Lalou Bize-Leroy is the force behind Maison Leroy, which, Parker added, “stands virtually alone at the top of Burgundy’s quality hierarchy.”

It is another unique opportunity to experience the fruit of Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, and Savigny from the hands of the Burgundy master with some price relief, especially when you consider that Domaine Leroy Corton-Charlemagne's typically command more than £10,000 a bottle – if you can find one!.  This is classic white Burgundy that offers approachability with its lush generosity of rich fruit and texture, balanced by high-toned energy, creating harmony that only Burgundy can deliver with the noble varietal. It is a wine that is constantly evolving in the glass, taking you on a trip with each sip while once again revealing nuances of honeyed or ripe golden apples, pear, grapefruit. white flowers, spice and just the right salinity and minerality that lingers for a drying and energetic finish. It is another bottle from Leroy that will satisfy old world Chardonnay lovers and certainly convert new world enthusiasts. This is a wine that offers immediate appeal today with its generous, almost silk-like texture and clean, pure fruit that is very representative of the 2016 vintage.
