One of the smart purchases in vintage 2022 is La Dame de Montrose, a second wine that would embarrass numerous classified growths. Based on 71% Merlot, the Dame sees a more reductive élevage than the grand vin, which is perfectly adapted to this variety. Opening to reveal aromas of sweet cassis, cherries and berries mingled with hints of violets, spices and orange zest, it's full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, with a powerful but controlled profile.

The Second wine of the superb 2nd Grand Cru Classé Château Montrose, La Dame de Montrose is distinguished by its very own personality, offering a unique expression of the great terroir of Saint-Estèphe.
Dame de Montrose has been one of a select group of outstanding second wines over the last decade, but the 2018 has raised the bar to a new level. This has real Grand Vin stature. Initially brooding, slowly, floral Cabernet and violet notes emerge along with bramble, blackberry and loganberry aromas. There is a lot of wine here. Deep and concentrated with waves of lavish yet tensile fruit - this is a really serious effort with large-scale tannins that stain the palate with cassis, wood spice, liquorice and ferrous minerals. An outstanding second wine.
