Denis Durantou's "second wine" is a serious Pomerol in its own right, but at a fraction of the price of Eglise Clinet. Usually the best value wine in Pomerol. The 100% Merlot fruit is harvested on sandier soils and elevaged in 50% new oak barrels in the cellars of Eglise Clinet.

The 2016 La Petite Eglise has a lovely bouquet of wilted violet petals and incense flanking blackberry and raspberry scents. With aeration, there is just a hint of balsamic. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. This feels fresh from start to finish. A fine-boned, precise Pomerol that delivers impressive closing precision. Excellent. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting. 2022 - 2040 | |
