2016 is a tremendous rendition of Lagrange. Opaque ruby colour. The nose offers arterial black-red fruit perfume, with heart on sleeve pungency. This is a richly-flavoured Lagrange, dark, spicy with a flare of freshness and chewy density to the finish. Deeply impressive length. A triumph.

Château Lagrange, Pomerol, was bought by Etablissements Jean-Pierre Moueix in 1953 from the then owner of Château Trotanoy. It is planted partly on gravel, partly on clay, including the celebrated blue clay, soils so favoured by merlot vines, allowing them to achieve exemplary expression. Rigorous discipline in the vineyard, fundamental to this property’s exalted reputation was augmented when additional plots were added in 2012.Supple, round, generous and fruit-driven, Château Lagrange is a delightful expression of the lighter style of Pomerol wines, approachable in its youth.
