Chateau Poujeaux 2016 is well-concentrated and gourmet. The quality of the terroir has been able to express its potential, and give the wine a great aromatic complexity.
Medium garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Poujeaux is scented of fried herbs, tar and earth with baked plums and a waft of rocks. The palate is medium-bodied, firm, chewy and herbal.

With a wine making history dating to the 19th century, Chateau Poujeaux can be considered a "young" estate in Bordeaux but has earned a reputation in its own right. French President Georges Pompidou was a particular fan or the Moulis-en-Medoc estate and was known to serve it at the Elysée Palace. Today, the Cuvelier family, owners of Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Clos Fourtet, have acquired the chateau, injecting a new passion and energy into winemaking at the estate. Poujeaux's 68 hectares are planted with 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot.
Chateau Poujeaux is a 68 hectare vineyard located in the Moulis-en-Medoc appellation. The vines are 35 years old, on average, and planted on günzian gravel from the Garonne. Maturation occurs in barrels (30% are new) for 12 months. The 2016 vintage is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot.
The mild, dry winter gave way to a fresh spring with heavy rainfall, which delayed development. However, the beginning of June provided the perfect temperatures for flowering to take place. The warm, dry summer allowed the grapes to reach magnificent concentration levels and maturity. Harvest was from October 4th - 21st.
