The 2017 La Gaffeliere is a blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc. Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the nose is a little closed to begin, slowly unfurling to reveal fragrant scents of kirsch, black raspberries and warm plums plus suggestions of unsmoked cigars, rosehip tea and underbrush. Medium-bodied, the palate has fantastic elegance and sophistication, with tons of bright, perfumed fruit and exquisitely ripe tannins, finishing with bags of freshness and energy.

An embodiment of the unique and sensual persona of the great terroir of Saint-Émilion, Château La Gaffelière triumphs vintage after vintage along with the greatest wines de Bordeaux. Managed with he signature enthusiasm of Alexandre de Malet Roquefort, along with a dynamic team advised by renowned oenologist Stéphane Derenoncourt, this 1st Grand Cru Classé B estate has achieved great precision while maintaining the harmony and elegance typical of its wines.
Product of an atypical vintage, the Château La Gaffelière 2017 has once again become one of the most successful wines of its appellation. Although the the frost episodes at the end of April did not spare the lower end of the vineyard of La Gaffelière, those plots that were not frozen managed to develop under favourable conditions grapes with perfect ripeness before harvest. The fruit presented a good balance between sugar and acidity, and a great freshness of aromas.
A landmark of power and precision, the Château La Gaffelière 2017 expresses the elegance and class of Cabernet Franc (45%) and Merlot (55%) from the great clay-limestone terroirs of the coast. Intense and exquisite, the aromatic bouquet is delicately polished by elegant floral notes, exploding with black fruit flavours and revealing the freshness of bitter orange, along with the soft spicy notes. The palate dazzles with its dense texture, revealing the fineness of the tannic grain. The mid-palate is consistent, with a softness and generosity of fruit, which relaxes its tension on a long and intense finish. The freshness of the finish emphasises the mineral footprint of the terroir. An immense success for a vintage, promising a great future ahead of it.
