Darling Cellars Lime Kilns is a blend of 81% Chenin Blanc, 16% Viognier and 3% Chardonnay shows a lot of tropical notes like peaches apricot and citrus fruit like orange peel. This is a seriously complex wine that has a great mid palate with good length and ageing potential.
A chiselled, focussed wine that effortlessly manages to be both subtle and intense. The palate is penetrating and profound yet graceful and poised. A forceful mineral acidity is beautifully balanced by a subtle yet compelling intensity of fruit. A classic length, creaminess and intriguing complexity defines this stylish, world class Chardonnay.
The svelte nose offers up a fine blend of red cherries, pomegranate, delicate forest floor and a hint of spice and new oak. On the palate the wine is sensual and embracing, with a captivating mid-palate depth, lovely transparency and excellent focus on a suavely tannic finish.
Barton Estate Chenin Blanc displays aromas of pears with hints of guava and honeyed notes. This is an attractive crisp, full-flavoured Chenin Blanc with a fresh palate of pears and tropical fruits. Overall this Barton Estate Chenin Blanc vintage is refreshing with excellent length; it has some mineral complexity, which is normally associated with higher...
Boekenhoutskloof’s Semillon is the only wine that Gottfried Mocke makes from a flat vineyard – and what a site it is, planted in 1902 on François Malherbe’s farm. Blended with a 40% contribution from much steeper La Colline, it’s subtly wooded, with lanolin, citrus and some stony sap, lovely balance and just a hint of extra...
It’s surely no coincidence that Boekenhoutskloof moved into its swanky new cellar in 2018, as the quality of most of its wines has gone up a notch. This comes from two excellent growers on the Helderberg and is wonderfully focused, layered and complex with some underlying grip, blackcurrant leaf top notes and some seasoning from 5% Cabernet Franc....
Given that 80% of Boekenhoutskloof’s Syrah now hails from Porseleinberg (the remainder is from Goldmine), it’s no surprise that this is such an impressive wine. Fermented with 40% whole bunches, it’s subtle, scented and almost delicate, with filigree tannins, rose petal top notes, some clove and nutmeg spice and a hint of oak. Drink...
This Blancs de Blancs has hints of fresh lime and citrus, complimented by a subtle yeastiness. It shows a great finesse on the finish with a crisp, rich and creamy complexity.
Bouchard Finlayson Blanc De Mer is a lip-smacking, cool climate blend that is the perfect partner to fish, shellfish and white meats. It has a fragrant, Riesling dominated nose of grape, lime and peach fruit with a lovely weight of fruit on the palate and a luscious but mouthwatering finish. The richness of Viognier is countered by the Riesling's acidity...
The Crocodile's Lair vineyard is located 700m above sea level, ripens a month later than others and benefits enormously from cool autumn temperatures. There's a whole fruit bowl on the palate here: strawberries, kiwi, peach, lychee and tangerine. Bronze Medal – International Wine Challenge
The Hemel-en-Aarde Valley enjoys the unique combination of soil and climate that provides the exact balance for the perfect expression of Pinot Noir. First impressions are an earthiness on the nose, followed by excellent colour and bold palate complexity. Dark red fruit with a savoury mixture of cherries, plums and cinnamon drifting into an extended...
A classic Hannibal vintage, sporting cherry and plum compote aromas, a saline edge and clean leather adding depth of flavour. The entry is subtle, offering rounded yet notable tannins, building towards the finish. Bronze Medal – International Wine Challenge
