From an extraordinary vintage, this remarkable wine is still going as strong as ever. As deep, rich and concentrated today as it was in its youth and still showing tantalising ripeness. Established by Gaston Hochar in 1930. Chateau Musar is without doubt Lebanon`s top wine estate and their flagship red is a blend of Cabernet...
When released the wine was a bright, deep garnet-red, with notes of roasted, spice and cardamom. A great depth and richness were apparent, conveying flavours of cassis, caramel, spices, and nutty oak. A sweet fruit, full-bodied vintage; velvety in the mouth with a long, warm finish. In its maturity, the wine still retains its acidity and spice element,...
Silky, pretty and gamey with dried berries and hints of cedar and flowers. A classic bottle! The palate was medium-bodied, bloody and with fine, smooth tannins and a really surprisingly juicy finish. Fresh tobacco and damp soil. Delicious! Last remaining bottle
Serge Hochar had been in the U.S. and had assumed that picking would not be possible due to intense fighting above the Bekaa Valley. Once word came that the situation had improved, he made his way back, via Paris and Cyprus. The grapes were very ripe, but picking was completed without problems from the weather. With the usual route back to the winery...
Aclassical vintage made with no major problem, except one: its size. Good conditions in the winter followed by a fresh summer. This was one of the smallest vintages in a decade at Chateau Musar, yet the wine is one of the biggest. Medium to full colour, very fine bouquet leading to a well balanced, tannic wine. Very well structured with great...
The 1988 was a powerful wine when released, but this theme continues into later life, where the vibrancy of the year’s fruit is shining through and the quality is evident in the glass. It has a relatively youthful appearance and good colour. A very spicy aroma of liquorice and clove that is repeated on the palate with a vibrant dark fruit component....
The 1989 is an exceptional vintage. Exceptional because with war raging around them, the Chateau Musar winery was hit on several occasions and the deep cellars used as air raid shelters, yet still wine continued to be produced. A dry winter followed by a mild summer led to an exceptional vintage, despite the surrounding troubles.
1991 was a massive vintage. Dark ruby colour - bright and beautiful. The nose is chocolate, animal, tobacco and leather. Very complex and rich, red fruits, spices, olives and lots of fruits. Very harmonious and well balanced. Very long length with chestnut flavours and long fine grain
Coming from the wood in the spring of 1996, the wine showed green spicy oak notes on the nose, with more open Cabernet character. The palate was firm with quite good tannins, although the fruit was already beginning to show the ripe chocolatey texture so typical of Musar. An intense, richly concentrated wine.
A rich, warm colour, now paling towards the rim, with a smoky nose full of spices and fruits. On the palate there are mixed berry fruits – cherries, redcurrants, pomegranates and Christmas spices of cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. Good acidity with good tannin levels results in a wine of classic structure with long ageing potential.

One of the great attributes of Chateau Musar is the availability of old vintages which have been stored at the winery with perfect provenance. Admittedly, 1998 is not a particularly old vintage for Musar, but it has just started to develop those secondary notes of undergrowth, tar, cedar, wood polish and tobacco. This gives the impression of being a...
