This qualification aims to provide the basic product knowledge and skills in the service and retail of wine to prepare a person for their first job in hospitality or retail.
This course is also a good introductory first course for the wine enthusiast who wishes to be introduced in a structured way to wine styles, storing and serving of wine and food and wine matching. The course is offered as a 'combined' course, covering both service and retail of wine. Sessions cover the core learning but are then split according to the hospitality and retail for examination, please indicate on booking form which examination is required. The qualification introduces candidates to: -The main styles of wine
-The characteristics of the major grape varieties
-The WSET Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting
-Service and retail of wine
-Health, safety and legal issues
-The matching of food and wine To gain the Level 1 qualification candidates will be required to:
Complete a programme of training delivered by a WSET Level 1 Approved Programme Provider Successfully complete:
-a multiple choice paper of 30 questions
-a portfolio of tasting notes. Fee includes study material, samples, tuition, examination and provision of tasting glasses during the course. Tutor John Roberts Duration of Course: 6 Hours + End of course assessment Number of Students needed for course: 5-10 Price for the 1 day course: From £85 (Vat Exempt) per Student (depending on the number of Students) BOOKING CONDITIONS Bookings on courses cannot be reserved without payment of fees and places will only be confirmed once payment is received. Cancellations of confirmed places are accepted up to 10 working days prior to the start of the course. An administration fee of £25.00 will be charged, plus the cost of study materials supplied, and the remainder of the course fee returned to the payee. If a confirmed course booking is cancelled, for whatever reason, during the ten working days prior to the start of the course, or at any time after the start of the course, the fee remains payable in full. Once a booking is confirmed, any transfer to another course or to another applicant will only be accepted on payment of an administration fee of £25.00. Transfer requests must be made before the start of the course. Fees will only be refunded in full if the School cancels or changes a date of a course.
