Young Jean Leon had always dreamed of travel, and at the tender age of 19 he left his home town of Barcelona and stowed away on a ship bound for the States. Having spent time as a cabbie (his number was 3055) he travelled west and found work at the Villa Capri restaurant - owned by Frank Sinatra and Joe di Maggio. He became good friends with the many actors that dined there and soon after opened La Scala in Beverly Hills with James Dean. Returning to Spain in 1962, he founded a boutique winery in Penedés, Catalunya - where he grew the country's first Cabernet vines and introduced the concept of single vineyard wines.
