La Grande Année is Bollinger’s Prestige Cuvée and is only produced when exceptional vintages occur. The grapes come exclusively from Grand and Premier Crus. The 2004 vintage is a blend of 16 crus, including 88% Grands crus and 12% Premiers crus. Bollinger use only the ‘cuvée’ juice in the making of La Grande Année. The first fermentation is always carried out 100% in old oak barrels, which is quite exceptional in Champagne. The wine is aged on its lees for a minimum of 5 years, often more. After manual riddling and disgorging, the wine rests for a minimum of 3 months prior to shipment.
