The estate of Clos L\'Abba was created by Marie-Pierre and Stéphane Apelbaum in 2001 by piecing together three small vineyard plots. The vineyards are in three different communes, Saint Emilion, Saint Sulpice de Faleyrens and Vignonet, and all are classified as \"\"Grand Cru.\"\" The vines have an average age of 25 years and are worked traditionally without the use of insecticides to preserve the eco-system that includes natural ground cover and predators. The severe thinning of grapes is done throughout the growing cycle and harvesting is done by hand. At harvest the grapes pass a selection process three times before being admitted into the winery for fermentation where they are fermented on their natural yeasts. Less than 500 cases are produced.
