This is one of the finest Charmes de Kirwan, the second wine of famous Margaux property Chateau Kirwan, ever produced. It is remarkably round and fleshy with extremely powerful fruit flavours of blackcurrant and plum. Perfectly in balance there is enough acidity to balance the fleshy fruit while just a hint of oak finish off what is a remarkable wine.
The finesse and subtlety that characterize this wine are matched by its complexity and depth. The wines produced at Château Belles-Graves are a reflection of the earth which yields them and of the landscape from which the vines grow; they combine complexity and harmony with elegance.
With its well-handled new wood treatment, this wine instead has gone for full-bodied richness. The wood is definitely an important element, but its ripe, smooth black plum juice and blueberry flavors share the honors of this delicious wine equally.
The blend is 40% sauvignon blanc, 40% muscadelle, and 20% of sémillon. That’s a very large percentage of muscadelle, which lends elegance and perfume to the blend. The sémillon gives roundness and richness, while the sauvignon blanc gives snappy acidity and citrus qualities. This wine is flinty and perfumed, with pleasant finesse and no oak.
